What exactly are the reasons for choosing Fairtrade?

We’re all aware how much of a consumer society we have become and many of us worry about the environmental and social repercussions of this industry.  Issues ranging from food miles, packaging and storage on the one hand, to pesticides, land and water management on the other are all of concern to us, but so too is the human side of the trading equation.  Cheap products are just about always achieved by low pay and poor working conditions. 

Fairtrade addresses all of these issues.

  • guarantees greater respect for the environment (many products are organic, and most are working towards it)

If we can’t source our food and clothing locally then Fairtrade gives us the opportunity to buy into a system that is fair and sustainable.  Fairtrade wine tastes great alongside locally produced organic cheese!
